The new exhibit, "Outlaws & Armadillos: Countrys Roaring 70s" explores the golden, rowdy time for Country music, featuring Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and many more! The Armadillo Club in Austin TX provided a place where hippies and "rednecks" could come together to listen to Country artists. Well stay two nights at the Embassy Suites in Memphis, and enjoy their evening managers reception with alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks and light appetizers. (B, L)
DAY 3 The Soul of Memphis music is a mix of Blues, Swing, Pop and Gospel that was blended by the talents of the early artists that performed and recorded in Memphis to the cultural explosion of the 1960s in the neighborhood known as Soulsville USA, where Aretha Franklin was born, Al Green recorded his super hits of the 1970s and Elvis Presley snuck into a Baptist church as a teenager to listen to gospel music. There were two rival labels that defined soul music in the public consciousness the polished Motown soul of Detroit and the gritty Stax soul from Memphis. Well visit the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, which pays tribute to the artists like Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Wilson Pickett, Luther Ingram, Booker T. & the MGs with a rare and amazing collection of more than 2,000 artifacts, interactive exhibits, films and galleries.
