Day 1

Fly from Boston to Basel, Switzerland
Funtastic Getaways will provide transportation to Logan Airport for those taking the group airfare offered by Viking Cruises. Depart Logan Airport this evening for our overnight flight to Basel, Switzerland. Transfer to the dock, where you may board the ship anytime after 11 AM. Relax in your room or explore the downtown area adjacent to the docks. Our cruise departs at 11:00 PM. Dinner is served on board. (D)


Day 2

Breisach, Germany
Arrive in Breisach this morning, the gateway to the Black Forest. Take a scenic excursion through the area's renowned mountain landscape, rolling meadows and dense forests. Once there, visit a local workshop to see a cuckoo clock-making demonstration, and learn how Black Forest Cake is made. Return to your ship for lunch. This afternoon, perhaps join an optional excursion to the quaint Alsatian town of Colmar to discover the storybook charm of its streets lined with medieval, Gothic and Renaissance buildings, and visit a fine arts museum. Alternately, choose an optional excursion that explores Colmar's World War II history. Dine onboard this evening and cruise on through the night. (B, L, D)

Day 3

Strasbourg, France
Disembark this morning for your guided tour of Strasbourg. See the European Parliament and tour the interior of the city's famed cathedral. Free time allows you to further explore this Alsatian city's blend of French and German cultures, resplendent churches, medieval covered bridges, verdant parks and handsome Art Nouveau and modernist architecture. Alternately, join an optional excursion into Alsatian wine country for an informative winery tour and tasting. Or, spend your full day exploring culinary Strasbourg on an optional excursion; as you explore the city and take in its sights, savor samples of the renowned Alsatian cuisine, from regional dessert specialties and meats to wine pairings with local foods. Return to your ship for dinner and departure. (B, L, D)

Day 4

Heidelberg, Germany
After breakfast, disembark for a tour of Heidelberg, the home of Germany's oldest university, founded in 1386. Visit the beautiful sandstone ruins of imposing Heidelberg Castle and take in the scenery of the Neckar River Valley and the city's many red rooftops from this hilltop post. Afterward, set on a walking tour through Old Town to Heidelberg's renowned gates. Return to your ship for lunch and afternoon cruising. Arrive in Rüdesheim in the early evening, then spend free time in the pedestrian-only Drosselgasse and sample a glass of locally produced wine at one of the restaurants or wine bars. Dine on board your ship or spend more time exploring in town if you prefer. You may also choose to experience one of our optional dinners on shore tonight. We remain docked overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 5

Koblenz, Germany
This morning, sail along the most scenic stretch of the Rhine, where turreted castles and fortresses overlook the river from their hilltop posts. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this part of the Middle Rhine Valley is so beautiful. Arrive in Koblenz this afternoon and disembark for a tour of 700-year-old Marksburg Castle. You may also join an optional excursion that offers a lively and informative tour of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress; or, choose to journey into Moselle wine country on an optional excursion, stopping for a tour and tasting at a local winery. Return to your ship for lunch. Later, enjoy some time in this charming town at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine Rivers. (B, L, D)

Day 6

Cologne, Germany
Begin your day with a morning tour of Cologne, Germany's fourth largest city. Stroll through Old Town past St. Martin's Church and visit the Dom, Germany's largest cathedral and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend your free time enjoying Cologne's atmospheric waterfront, or perhaps join an optional excursion on which you ascend to the Dom's roof for up-close views of the cathedral's architecture and bird's-eye vistas of Cologne. Afterward, return on board for dinner. Alternately, you may set off on an optional excursion to explore Cologne's spirited beer culture, sampling Kölsch, a light, crisp beer brewed only in Cologne, and enjoying a brauhaus dinner. After, return to your ship for a late-evening departure. (B, L, D)

Day 7

Kinderdijk, The Netherlands
We sail along the Rhine during the morning hours. Admire scenic views and enjoy a morning of enjoyable Dutch diversions: sample Dutch cheeses and jenever, a distilled juniper liquor, and take in a culturally enriching presentation on the Dutch Golden Age. This afternoon, your ship arrives in Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Disembark for an afternoon tour of this ingenious network of windmills and other flood management devices. You learn why the windmills were built and see how they work, plus you enter a working windmill for a tour of its mechanisms and living quarters. Board your ship for departure and dinner. Arrive in Amsterdam around midnight. (B, L, D)

Day 8

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
After breakfast on your ship, transfer to Amsterdam's First-Class Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre (or similar). Once you get settled, embark on a walking tour through the charming streets and neighborhoods of Amsterdam. The rest of your day is free to enjoy Amsterdam's wonderful restaurants and many attractions; explore the city's art or historic museums, visit the Anne Frank House or take a canal tour by glass-topped boat. A Viking host is available to help you plan your time in Amsterdam so you can make the most of your visit.


Day 9

Day 9 - Amsterdam
Enjoy breakfast and a full day at leisure to explore Amsterdam's charming neighborhoods and sample some treats. This evening, you may choose to dine in a local restaurant-Amsterdam offers many establishments in the "grand café" style and is also known for excellent Indonesian cuisine-and enjoy the city's lively nightlife. Depart Amsterdam
After breakfast, disembark and proceed to the airport for your return flight. When purchasing airfare from Viking Cruises, your airport transfer is included. If purchasing airfare independently, there is a fee for the airport transfer. (B)

A deposit for cruise/land tour of $ 500 per person is required to secure a confirmed reservation. Travel Insurance is available and must be purchased within 14 days of your reservation.  Insurance cost will vary depending on your cabin category and current airfare pricing. 

The final balance is due no later than 90 days prior to sailing. All reservations are subject to cancellation if payments are not received by the due date. Air seats are limited; airfares are subject to change and are not guaranteed until full payment of air is received.



For any cruise/tour booking, whether under deposit, partially paid, or paid in full, or an air-inclusive package paid in full, the following situations are considered cancellations and penalties will apply: changes to departure date; substitutions of itinerary; substitution of another person for original booked passenger(s); or changing to a promotional fare. All cancellations must be in writing. For all air-inclusive packages cancelled after issuance of an airline ticket, the air portion of the refund, if any, will be processed only after the return of airline ticket. The following cancellation charges will be assessed for all written cancellations received prior to departure up to the scheduled time of departure.

Roundtrip airport-to-ship transfers are only included when air is purchased with a tour package. Transfers are only valid on tour departure and arrival dates. If you choose to make your own air arrangements, transfers may be purchased through Viking River Cruises, Inc. or you may make your own transfer arrangements.



All passengers must have passports valid for six months following disembarkation.  Visas are not needed for this trip. Note: Due to airline security measures, the passport name must match the airline ticket name or you may be denied boarding.



Guests who have any medical, physical or other special needs must contact Viking River Cruises, Inc., at 1-877-66VIKING (1-877-668-4546), to obtain our Policy Statement. All vessels and motorcoaches are equipped to European standards. Vessel operators will, under appropriate circumstances, permit its passengers to use motorized scooters and wheelchairs which satisfy the criteria stated in the Viking River Cruises, Inc. Policy Statement, based upon a full understanding and appreciation by its passengers and their companions that the vessels do not have elevators which would permit easy access from deck to deck and that some decks are multi-level or contain significant thresholds. Accordingly, a physically challenged passenger will require the services of a responsible adult since crew availability is severely limited in most circumstances.
