Boston Landmarks

Wednesday, March 25

It is hardly surprising Boston is crammed full of spectacular landmarks – the buildings you pass by and say “oh I’d love to see the inside of that building someday!”

Begin the day at the beautiful Massachusetts State House.   On our guided tour we will get an overview of the history and architecture of the State Capitol. See the House and Senate Chambers, learn about the Ladybug (our state insect) and of the “Sacred Cod”.

You will have time for lunch (on own) at the Prudential Center and to explore Eataly!  Eataly is Mario Batali’s Italian food emporium featuring three floors of food lover’s paradise covering 45,000 square feet with restaurants, coffee bars and eateries, as well as retail counters for cheeses, specialty meats, seafood, bakery and more (you might want to bring a cooler!!).

After lunch, we will explore the buildings around Christian Science Plaza. Enjoy a guided tour of the Mary Baker Eddy Library, with their many exhibit halls and galleries including the world-famous Mapparium. Standing three stories tall, the Mapparium is a beautiful painted glass globe that is a work of art when viewed from the outside, but to walk the 30-foot glass bridge INSIDE the globe is truly breathtaking. Enjoy a guided tour of the Romanesque style First Church of Christ, built in 1894. It includes frescoes, mosaic work, Italian marble floors, and stained-glass windows, as well as the 1906 Byzantine-Renaissance style Church Extension with a soaring dome, seating for over 3,000 people, and one of the world's largest Aeolian-Skinner pipe organs.
